On the morning of Nov 9th 2016, I was holding the youngest grandchild. She was 15 mos and was sound asleep in arms. She had had a little cold and was napping. I remember so clearly whispering in her little ear: “ I’m sorry, I am so sorry...” Pos potus had been elected. I was in shock and I was afraid for the future. And here we are. She is four now, turning five in August and knows she cannot hug as much as we did, “cause coronavirus”. She and I miss our times together. Her daddy is on the front lines working in an ER as a nurse.
My mind goes to dark places. Are we at the set up of a world that looks like“Elyisum”? Instead of satellite communities, we already have in place the gated communities of the 1%, while the rest are trying to survive, feed their families. The insane b*tsh*t crazy pos potus and his team of sadistic greedy men (Barr, Mnunchin, Rick Scott, Pence, Kushner et al) are encouraging people to go out and defy the virus. Their propaganda network, FOX, of millionaire talking heads are encouraging it too. People will die but they don’t care. In the early days of this, I would stop my mind, reminding myself that because I like scifi and have read so many dystopian novels, I am perhaps overreacting. Now I wonder. Am I??
Many scifi dystopia novels seems to start with some powerful politician/leader NOT BELIEVING the experts. Others where you don’t know how we got there, you imagine: was it a natural disaster from which the world could not recover, and the rich and powerful had the means to protect themselves while encouraging the rest to engage in civil war for limited supplies? That’s what I see now in my mind every time this malignant narcissist takes the microphone. So I turn off the sound; tune in after but I see the clips. It is clear. POS potus is the worst set of combinations: greedy, nasty, and stupid. He is BIFF in Back to the Future II. But the scariest part is that there are SO MANY WHO PROTECT AND SUPPORT HIM. Mnunchin is the “second in charge evil guy” in every dystopia. He, in turn, is in charge of the sadistic ones who LOVE being able to have power over life and death. In the novels, the Mnunchin character is often one of the first to be taken out. And I see Barr …..looking like Harkonnen this as he tries his hand at keeping the orange menace in power:
I see no GOOD end in sight here. Maybe some of you do and can share. I see darkness ahead. I don’t want to but I do. Even if Biden wins in November I do not see the malignant narcissist stepping down. And I see the stupid people, the ones left alive, with the guns protecting him. I want to see the FBI, the CIA and the military siding with the people. But I don’t.
I weep for the grandchildren, their future, the planet…..all because we have allowed the crazy, the rich, the evil to get power.
Now you might remember I have been one of those people who talked about how we should have seen this way back, the day effing Reagan/Bush stole the election. That aside, as much as I feared what that election in 1980 might enable for the future, I honestly NEVER imagined it this bad, this out of control. What scares me the most is that there are a few people I know, a few relatives, a few acquaintances WHO STILL support this idiotic administration. These are NOT the stereotypical Trumpers one sees at these rallies, or holding their guns on the steps of some capitol building. These are wealthy, educated people…..people who SHOULD know better. It boggles my mind, and honestly has made me wonder…..can we stop them?
